When Your Faith Gets Low

Thank God for another Simply Faith Friday

If you feel like you have fallen off and don’t know how to get started again, this one is for you.

There are times in our faith walk when we may feel stalled because of the pace we’re going. We may feel lost, stuck, or like we’ve lost sight of where we’re headed. That change in pace can pierce through to our self-perception, stirring up anxiety or even depression.

Have you ever been in a situation where you were afraid you were lost, in the middle of nowhere, unsure of your direction? That loss of clarity can trigger feelings of fear, worry, anxiety, or discouragement. Sometimes you feel confident about where you’re going, and other times you don’t—and it’s in those moments that fear has a way of creeping in.

Fear can change the way you move. Some of us may slow down, or even stop completely when we feel stuck.

We get distracted. We lose track of our destination. Maybe this shows up as discouragement. Maybe you’ve been disappointed. Maybe life threw you a curve ball that knocked you down. Or maybe you don’t even have a reason—you just lost strength, momentum, or the steam to keep going. When this happens, we often think it’s over or that we have to stop completely.

I want to encourage you that even if you slowed down or stopped, you can keep going. Think of it like traveling down the road to a destination. When you first get in the car, your only goal is to reach where you’re going. But sometimes something unexpected happens. Maybe a light comes on in your car, or maybe nothing happens at all—it’s just the distance you’ve been traveling. Either way, you may need to pull over for a while. The one thing I want you to remember is this: you don’t just turn around and go back home. When you get yourself together, you merge back into your lane and keep moving forward.

Getting tired, losing interest, facing uncertainty, lack of clarity, or losing momentum are not signs to stop. They are opportunities for you to do a few things:

  1. Invite God in to restore your strength, direction, and vision—take the pressure off yourself.

  2. Lean into God to help you navigate and give you what you need to keep going.

  3. When you merge back into your lane, you haven’t lost anything. In the words of my friend Shenelle, nothing is wasted. God has counted every mile you’ve already traveled on your faith walk, and He promised to make it all work together for your good.

I want to end with this: there is nothing that can stop God’s plan for your life. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve stopped, paused, or restarted. If this is you and you’ve been feeling down on yourself for pausing in the middle of your journey, I want to encourage you to just merge back into your lane and keep going.

In purpose,

Simply Faith
